Abstract

This short tutorial video summarizes the surgical technique for conventional open harvesting of the great saphenous vein as a conduit for coronary artery bypass grafting.

Introduction

The use of saphenous vein (SV) grafts is a fundamental element of coronary artery bypass grafting. Several techniques have been described to harvest SV grafts. Graft quality is one of the key determinants of procedural success. Which harvesting technique should be used to assure superior graft patency is still a matter of debate.

As venous grafts are often harvested by junior surgeons, this Core Skills tutorial discusses the main steps of the conventional open surgical technique of great saphenous vein harvest.
